This is a battle of win/lose? Larry Send a noteboard - 29/03/2010 08:47:54 PM
You are the one that brought up the awards as a means to justify AR's validity, I simply refuted your position by showing that his awards and accomplishments are much smaller than you put forth that they were, and RJs were much larger than you implied. I did not bring income into the discussion as it is another irrelevant point, as is the amount of personal satisfaction he may or may not have in his literary carrer. The point was about "what is a successful author". I simply refuted your assertation that he is more "successful" than RJ; thus being qualified to critique and atempt to ridicule his work. Furthering the point by naming several other authors, with a similar name, that also eclipse him (Mick only got into it because I was going to use "have a nice day" as my closing statement and remembered that it was also a book title).

You can continue to try to defend him, but you will continue to lose. His review is complete fluff and disingenuous if not flat out decietful. Either he is too stupid to see, or intentionally trying to be misleading on most of his points (personally I vote for the latter). No matter how entertaining his prose may or may not be, his review is complete drivel. He reminds me of Terry Goodkind in that way with his fake intelectual snobbery which only illustrates his foolishness.

Why was I not informed of this? I thought it was putting forth statements to support/refute a stance with a possibility of a middle ground being reached. If this is going to be a zero-sum win/lose bit, then do I "win" because I can spell better? Or "lose" because I happen to disagree with your mostly-unsupported statements that the author/critic wrote "complete drivel"?

Now you could stop wasting your time trying to win me over and do your "patriotic duty" and go to the guy's blog and argue your points. Perhaps he'll see the "error of his ways" and convert to your stance.

Or perhaps not. But I don't care to participate in what another seems to view as a win/lose proposition. It's not what debate necessarily is about.
